U.S. Department of Education Grant

ArtsEd Washington will work with Arts Impact over the next four years to document the effects of combining strong principal leadership training in the arts with comprehensive teacher-training, as a result of a $269,978 Arts In Education Model Development and Dissemination grant award by the US Department of Education (DoE) to the Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD).

The research model will also track student performance on selected WASL tasks in math and writing that line up with the arts infused concepts taught during the two year Arts Impact training to show the connection between arts infused learning and student achievement in math and reading. The project was one of only 34 selected by the DoE from 146 applications from across the country and the 4-year grant will total $1.08 million. This amount represents 90% of the total cost of the project which is $1.2 million for the four years. 10% of funding will come from private and corporate funding sources.

The Grant Program supports the development, documentation, evaluation and dissemination of innovative models that integrate arts into the core elementary and middle school curricula; strengthen arts instruction; and Improve students’ academic performance.

The project will formally unite these two successful programs. Read More
