2024-2025 Program Series: Back to Basics
Arts experiences are not just extras— They are essential for a complete and quality education. Arts education is also protected as part of “Basic Education” in statute at the state and federal level.
In 2024-2025, ArtsEd Washington began touring schools around the state to see firsthand what’s working and what needs more support. And of course, to provide that support whenever possible! School tours were developed with regional leaders and educators, and included a combination of the following options, as requested by each host school. View a list of example activities here.

Clarifying Equitable Arts Education Expectations After SB-5878
ArtsEd Washington collaborated with education leaders from throughout the state to develop a series of guides to support schools in navigating the implementation of SB-5878 (now legally part of RCW 28A.230.020). We also collected survey responses from 122 arts educators across the state, giving us an inside look at our schools’ successes and the gaps that need filling. In all of these presentations, we equipped participants with advocacy tools and resources that could guide their next steps. Several of those materials and recordings are now available as free downloads.

Arts Education and Data Literacy
It’s been nearly 15 years since Washington State collected data to represent arts education in our schools! Along with leaders in Arts 4 All, ArtsEd Washington has been working to ensure that new data is collected and made available for public consideration. To prepare for this upcoming release of data, in summer of 2023, ArtsEd Washington contracted with Quadrant Research to present 4 online Data Literacy Workshops. Hosted from our ArtsEd Washington office in Seattle and through our Zoom account, these informative and interactive workshops focused on developing data literacy to ensure that advocates of equitable arts education will know how to interpret this report accurately and equitably!
